As an instructional writer and designer, I specialize in K-12 digital content, curriculum, and online professional development. Having been in education for over 25 years, I began the first decade of my career as an elementary classroom teacher in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. I then brought my understanding of teaching, learning, curriculum, and educational technology to schools throughout the US in my role as professional development consultant and later, as online professional development manager for Tom Snyder Productions. In the past ten years, freelance consulting and writing projects have included work with Scholastic, PBS TeacherLine, Library of Congress, WNET New York Public Media, PBS Learning Media, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and WGBH Educational Foundation. Currently, I am the digital literacy specialist and librarian at McLean School in Potomac, MD.
I was born and raised in NY by my Lithuanian émigré parents; studied, lived , and worked in Boston for 18 years; and then moved to Washington, DC. My travel-and-exploration loving family and I call the nation’s capital our home, but we have had the opportunity to live in both México City and Istanbul for almost 6 years – which defined our children at one point as third culture kids. The scales for them, however, are beginning to slowly tip to almost having spent more of their developing years inside the US vs. outside. At home, we speak both English and Lithuanian.
Education, technology, and understanding how to help children learn in meaningful ways have always been passions of mine, along with the discovery of new and exotic lands and cultures. This blog will explore topics in education, digital media and literacy, learning, creativity, educational technology, and living a global lifestyle.
